"Our Family, Helping Yours"
Matt Bayma brings a broad litigation background and practical, results-focused approach to representing clients in Telluride and the surrounding region.
After graduating from University of Denver Law School in the top third of his class in 2009, he began his legal career in Denver, where he spent eight years representing insureds and insurance companies in a wide range of civil litigation matters. That experience exposed him to every phase of litigation, including depositions, written discovery, motion practice, expert reports, trial preparation, and trial.
Through this practice, Matt developed a deep understanding of how insurance claims are evaluated and adjusted. He learned what strategies are most effective in contested litigation. By the end of his time as a defense attorney, he was handling high-stakes personal injury matters, complex construction defect cases, and land title disputes.
Matt moved to Telluride in 2016 and expanded his practice to serve clients across a broader range of legal needs, including criminal defense, family law matters, small business representation, and homeowners associations. His work in a rural mountain community has given him valuable perspective on the importance of practical advice, clear communication, and efficient problem-solving.
In 2024, Matt began staffing the San Miguel County branch of the District Attorney’s Office for the 7th Judicial District. In that role, he tried multiple jury cases in San Miguel and Montrose Counties and handled hundreds of felony and misdemeanor matters, including assault, domestic violence, harassment, burglary, theft, driving under the influence, and traffic offenses. This prosecutorial experience strengthened his already extensive litigation foundation and gives him added insight into how criminal cases are evaluated, negotiated, and tried.
Today, Matt is proud to represent individuals, businesses, and property owners throughout San Miguel County and the surrounding area. Whether a client has been injured in a car collision or ski accident, is facing criminal charges, is managing legal risk for a business, is involved in a homeowners association dispute, or is dealing with construction defects, Matt brings experience, judgment, and a practical litigation perspective to every matter.
Matt is also committed to giving back to the San Miguel County community. He currently serves as Board Chair of Bright Futures and as Secretary for the San Miguel County Planning Commission.
